A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Shark Cartilage – 11 July 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

These words appeared in a heading on page 9 of the July-August 2007 issue of the AARP Bulletin: “…Shark Cartilage Is Out.” Katherine Greider, the writer of this article, states:

“And forget shark cartilage for treating lung cancer. A three-year study of 384 patients by Houston’s M.D. Anderson Center found that those taking a placebo lived an average of 15.6 months, more than a month longer than patients on shark cartilage.”

We say – better yet, forget any animal-derived product. Why would anyone want to treat him/herself with anything produced through the suffering of any creature?
