“Dying for Your Entertainment: Cetacean Captivity Kills” by Regina
Bergen in the July/August issue of The Animals Voice Magazine
reveals the truth about the stress-filled, shortened lives of animals
who are captured with extreme violence. The enormous losses of life of
cetaceans being captured are considered “routine operating expenses”
by this “entertainment” industry. Cetaceans include whales, porpoises,
and dolphins.
The high death rates of these marine mammals, during and after
capture, keep the wildlife trafficking industry in business as they
replace dead animals who are considered simply “stock” at marine parks.
The painful truth is well-hidden from the public who are manipulated
into believing that somehow these shows are “educational.” As long as
families pay to see these captive animals, who are trained and
controlled to the detriment of their natural behavior and who die many
years earlier than what is normal, the industry’s profitable
exploitation will continue. Enthusiastic, deceived children sporting
T-shirts and other products advertising these marine parks and
aquariums, which are really prisons, ensure the continuation of this
cruelty.
