A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Dog and Cat Fur – 10 August 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Starting in 2009, the trade of any products containing dog or cat fur will be banned by the European Union. This ban was approved by members of the European Parliament in response to public outcry over the annual killing of more than two million cats and dogs just for their fur, as estimated by Humane Society International.

What I also find sneaky and disgusting is the sale of items with real animal fur that are deliberately labeled as “faux” (synthetic) fur!

In this day and age, isn’t it strange that so many people still cling to the ignorant, passé, and insensitive notion that wearing or using another animal’s fur or skin, whether real or synthetic, is somehow fashionable? When we see someone wearing fur or leather, we are “turned off” and wonder about the wearer’s character.
