Nowadays you hear a lot about global warming; but what about global
dimming? It appears that air pollution causes less sunlight to reach
the earth – hence, “global dimming.” Scientists were aware of the
negative health consequences of air pollution, but few realized that
it also diminished the amount of sunlight reaching the earth.
The other problem with global dimming is that it counteracts some of
the negative effects of global warming, making people less aware of the
seriousness of the problem.
Now it is thought that as air becomes less polluted, more sunlight
will reach the earth, temperatures will rise, and the impact of global
warming will become evident sooner than originally estimated, since the
shield of pollutants will not be as dense.
This sounds like being “between a rock and a hard place” as the
saying goes. Now I wonder how long it will take before it is openly
acknowledged that, where global warming is concerned, the methane from
animal agriculture is a greater threat than all the motor vehicle
pollution put together.
If people want to save the earth for their children and
grandchildren, they should wake up and face the fact that animal
agriculture’s days are numbered. They can adopt a plant-based diet now
or wait until it is too late and have no choice in the matter.
