"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
As I’m writing this poem, the wind is howling and the tree branches are being blown about. The sun was out for a while, illuminating a bright blue sky; then clouds took over. But sunlight still keeps on trying to come through.
At dawn as soon as I’m awake,
Morning fog hangs o’er the lake;
Distant mountains viewed through haze –
How I love these autumn days!
Walking against a chilly breeze
Blowing more leaves off the trees,
Autumn ushers in the cold:
Winter’s coming as foretold.
Rays of sun soon work their way
Through clouds all fluffy white or gray.
By noon the sky is blue and bright –
A gorgeous scene, a perfect sight!
Bright-colored leaves the cold defy –
But fewer in number – as they try
To flaunt their beauty till at last
They’re swept away by winter’s blast.
