Most people would consider their companion cat to be a member of
their family, and would be horrified to even think about eating him or
her! It would be an act of cannibalism.
Yet, looking through the latest issue of “VegNews Magazine” this
morning, I read about a children’s book writer and illustrator (no
less!) who has been catching and cooking feral cats for two decades.
According to the article, she actually entered her concoction at a
culinary competition in Australia!
My first reaction was total disgust for someone (especially a
children’s book author!) who can do such an evil thing; and I thought
about the judges who had to do the taste-testing!
Then I began to think about the billions of animals, who are very
much like us humans, but who are slaughtered mercilessly and whose
remains are sold in markets and restaurants everywhere you go, all over
the world; and how the numbers of these abused and slaughtered animals
are increasing dramatically.
Why don’t the majority of people make the connection? Like humans and
their companion animals, these other non-human “food” animals have
bodies that feel pain and pleasure; and they have emotional lives, too.
They have a God-given right to live their lives without being turned
into “products” for the warped, perverted, selfish pleasure of this
fallen human race. There is absolutely no excuse for the killing and
eating of any animals – period! It’s cannibalism!
As far as cats are concerned, we support the humane trap, neuter, and
return method of managing feral cats who cannot become household
companions, as well as the spaying and neutering of companion animals.
