A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Fur – 13 March 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

“Get a Feel for Fur – Slam Your Fingers in a Car Door.” These words, illustrated with a steel trap and an animal’s bloody paw, came to mind when I saw a politician’s wife bundled up in fur and proudly standing next to her husband.

I wondered why people nowadays would wear fur. For many years, information (films and photos, included) have been available to the public showing the horrendous suffering endured by fur-bearing animals, whether trapped or ranch-raised, where death by anal electrocution is an option straight from hell.

The fact that fur trimmed jackets are seen everywhere you go nowadays also shows that people just don’t want to make the connection. Isn’t it ironic that many of these folks who “love” their “pets” are actually wearing imported cat and dog fur, some deliberately mislabeled as “faux” or synthetic fur? This lack of empathy just goes to prove what a sociopathic world we live in.
