A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

World Vegetarian Day – 1 October 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

Isn’t it interesting that according to the Book of Genesis, God created the world so that there would be no killing at all; yet, here it is 2008 and humans, who should know better, are killing more of His creatures than ever?

Why do most humans stubbornly choose to ignore God’s original intent which was for a vegan/vegetarian world? Genesis 1:29 plainly states that God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.” Instead, people choose to live in His concessions made after the fall. Is it any wonder that so many diseases have their origin in animal exploitation?

Then there are prophets like Isaiah who said (Isaiah Chapter 11): “They will not hurt or destroy in all My [God’s] holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” For telling the truth, the people of his time saw to it that Isaiah was killed in a most gruesome way imaginable.

In the last book of the Bible, the Revelation to John (Revelation 21), we find that “He [God] shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain.” That’s right – no death – as in no slaughterhouses, no hunting, no fishing, no vivisection, no pet breeding, et cetera.

And what is really shameful is the fact that most of those who loudly proclaim that they are believers who know the truth are among the very ones who wallow in the products of cruelty that can only have their origin with Satan – God’s enemy. But they have no excuse, for Jesus very clearly tells them where they’re heading, if they continue with their hard-hearted ways (Matthew 7:21-23): “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord.’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ ”
