A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Do Dogs Have Souls? – 26 October 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

I just finished reading “Do Dogs Have Souls? Catholics v Cumberland Presbyterians” – one of the latest additions to the Humor section of our website:

All they have to do to put an end to this argument is look at the original Greek of Revelation 19:4. There they will see that the “four living creatures” of the English translation are “ζωα” (zoa) – that’s right – “animals”!

And if that is not enough to convince anyone, in Revelation 4:8 the original Greek for “living creature” is “ζωον” – “animal.” And again in Revelation 5:11 we find “ζώων” – “animal.”

The “living creatures” mentioned in the Bible are “animals.” The Greek word for “animals” is the root word from which such common English words as “zoo” and “zoology” are derived.

So, since dogs are animals (ζωα), they definitely go to Heaven – which is more than can be said about many humans. After all, according to the Bible, it was humans, through their disobedience, who brought about the fall of creation.

It’s obvious that all this denial of the truth is merely a ploy to justify the cruelty of humans. To justify their own exploitation of nonhumans, some humans like to point at the behavior of carnivorous animals who kill other animals. But if humans are so superior to other animals, why haven’t they set a better example? Why don’t they live by a higher standard?
