"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
“Rapture” is the word used by many Christians to describe a time when believers will be “caught up…in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them
in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with
the Lord.
~ New American Standard Bible
With this Bible passage in mind, I wrote the following poem today:
How wonderful it would be
If every eye on earth could see
God’s rapture of the innocent
Into the air to meet the Lord –
God’s eternal plan unfold,
No animals bought or sold
On blood-soaked earth –
All vanished from land and sea,
To be with the Lord for eternity.
Exploiters’ lab and farm
Emptied by the Lord – no harm,
No more torture and no fear
For “beasts” far or near.
Arrogant humans would be stunned
To see that those they shunned
As “soulless beasts” found God’s favor
While they themselves remain
To cry for deliverance in vain.
