  • He explained to us that the tiger is not a doomed species, just precarious. He is counting on our generation to preserve the animals that are becoming extinct.
  • He connected the tigers to conserving energy because the small villages around a preserve forest will illegally cut down trees for fires to cook. His team is trying to teach the people to use solar cookers and biogas to get the energy they need to cook so that the tigers do not continue to lose their habitat.
  • For a poacher to murder a tiger he will receive $50, but when the tiger is sold piece by piece in the form of medicine and fur, it can reach a total of $50,000.

Anthony Marr made me think about the environment more because itís honestly not that important to me. I would say that human and animal lives definitely take a priority for me over tree and soil. Mr. Marr made me realize that it is all connected Ė saving the planet and saving the tiger. And to know that it is the peopleís fault really saddens me. All the beef and wood we "need" causes deforestation and grazing to occur and that is what will eventually wipe out the tiger. Itís weird to think that there are only 5 of the 8 subspecies of tiger left, and that if people continue on this destructive path, another will probably disappear while Iím still alive.

Another thing that caught my attention was Marrís prediction that India was headed towards a famine. With the population growing and the cows eating everything I agree that that is were their country is headed.

Strength of his presentation was the slideshow. It gave us a sense that he was sincerely concerned because he was talking TO us and not AT us. He was very informed about the topic. A weakness was the video. I think it did not present anything that Mr. Marr couldnít have accomplished in about 5 sentences before he started the slideshow. Other than that I think he did an effective job of making us aware of something that is happening on the other side of the world.
