Summary:

  • Anthony Marr started his presentation with a slideshow. He had taken a lot of pictures on his trip and showed some of them to us. The interesting thing is that every single one has its own little story. For example, he showed us one of a tiger with her two cubs. Later, he went back to find the same tigress and was told that she had been killed by a poacher, and her two young cubs had also vanished. "One bullet killed three tigers."
  • A series of pictures showed the shrinking of tiger habitat throughout Asia. In 1900, it was in large patches. As the years went by it became fragmented, first into smaller patches, then into just spots on the map, until today, when you could hardly see them any more.
  • James asked Anthony Marr if he eats meat. He told us that he used to eat meat, but now he is a vegan. His prime motivation was compassion for the animals. He mentioned that North Americans eat 35 million cows, 100 million pigs and 10 billion chickens every year. I think these are really shocking numbers.

Opinion:

I actually liked his speech. It was really good. It would have been really cool if he had shown us his video as well.

I also think that it was impressive that Mr. Marr knows so much about media how to treat them to get as much attention as you want. Quote: "If you want to get your message out to millions of people, go to the media."

Something special that really gained everybodys respect is the fact that he tales his time to show the Indian villagers how to cook with solar power, in order to reduce deforestation. He opened a school in India, taking care to educate the village children. He is involved in a lot of volunteer work. But how can he afford all that?
