Feedback from the students of Worthington Kilbourne High School, Columbus, Ohio - September 28, 2006

Student - 44

Summary:

  • Anthony Marr is an environmentalist. He mainly dealt with the probable extinction of the Bengal tiger and how it can be saved.
  • Marr was very passionate about his work, e.g. in India to help the Indian people become self-sufficient and reduce deforestation.
  • He basically used "tiger" as a symbol. His main idea was to save the environment in all ways possible.
  • He also showed slides of some of the places he had visited, and different animals that he had dealt with. He also gave a lot of statistics about them and why and how they should be saved.

Opinion:

I thought Anthony Marr was a very interesting speaker. The best part about his speech was that he was very passionate. He knew exactly what he was doing. His slides were pretty good too, especially the one in which the tiger is camouflaged in the forest.

First of all, his topic about "tiger" was a highlight in itself. I have always been concerned about the Indian tigers. I personally liked his slides and everything in general, because I am from India myself. And he was dealing with a lot of problems in India which I am very much aware of.

Another major thing was that unlike other speakers he was not trying to get our vote, he was not trying to pursue us; he was just trying to awaken us about a problem that needs attention. His use of slides was very effective. He was also very interesting. I also liked how he connected everything finally. His focus was not just the tigers of India.

He just used "tiger" as a symbol for us to become aware about all the environmental concerns around us.

On the whole, his speech was just wonderful.
