Letter from Saaliha Concerning Companion Animal Adoption - 12 Sep 2004

On the site you say not to buy animals from pet stores but I tend to do this a lot because I feel sorry for some of the animals that sit in the cages all day. I always assumed it was a good thing to take an animal out of any bad situation .. ie: pet store. Can you explain to me why it's preferred not buy pet store animals?

Thanks so much

Dear Saaliha:

The animals that are sold in pet stores, for the most part, come from commercial breeders, sometimes called "puppy mills" where the animals live in horrible conditions. The only way to stop this business is to stop buying their "products".

Animals in pounds and shelters need adoption just as badly, if not more so, as those in pet stores. because most of them have been displaced from someone's home and know no other way of life, and feel abandoned.

We hope this helps.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank
