Letter from Ellen Katcher Concerning Animals and Society - 8 Dec 2005

Dear Frank and Mary;

Thank you for the comfort you have given me.

I think that humans draw a "circle of entitlement" around themselves. Those inside are assumed to have feelings and feel pain. Those outside do not.

Now, how long has it been that humans have included other races, handicapped and imperfect humans in that circle? Not very long.

We are evolving spiritually. I saw this as a high school biology teacher in NYC. I have had reason to show a video of a chimp being strapped, against its will, into the first space shuttle, many times over a 32 year career. Years ago it got no reaction from the kids. Last year they went ballistic with; "Miss, that's messeed up!....Why are they coing that?.....Miss, shut that off!"

This from NYC kids, who see and hear everything, and think the almighty dollar rules the world.

Reply from Frank and Mary Hoffman

Dear Ellen:

You're welcome, and thank you very much for the insight into the change that is taking place with your students.

When we first put up our animal exploitation photo journals, we designed them to reach adults, particularly those in the religious community. What we happily found was that most of our visitors were young people who thank us for exposing the lies they've been told over the years, and asking us what they can do to help end the atrocities committed upon animals.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
