Letter from Deborah Edwards about Mourning the Loss of Pets - 30 Mar 2006
Thank you for your articles on mourning the loss of a pet. I recently lost my kitty Cleo at the age of almost 16. It is so hard for friends to understand how much he means to me. It made all the difference to me to hear that someone else understands. I have found that even caring friends have a callous response to this, since they just don't understand. It is beyond me that all people don't/can't connect to animals the way I do, but it is a fact. It is comforting to know that I am not alone. And the bit about him being in a place far better than here, I have been praying, and have felt the Lord assure me that Cleo is in heaven, but it is good to hear someone else affirm it. Also, the bit about not allowing guilt in because of unconditional love - that helped me more than I can even say.
Thank you and God Bless!

Thank you very much for writing, for it encourages us, too.
We are sorry to hear about Cleo and know how you feel, as we've been through it many times ourselves.
Part of the problem that most people face is a kind of fear about accepting the fact that animals have souls and spirits just as we humans do. It's as thought they feel less of a being if they accept the fact that another species has these qualities, and they also realize their responsibility in contributing to the pain and suffering inflicted upon food animals. Thus, they deny the relationships that we know exists between our companion animals and ourselves.
This kind of love is a gift from God, and one day he will reunite us in heaven.
If you're interested in writing a memorial story about Cleo, we love to publish it along with some photos, if your have them.
In the Love of the Lord,
Frank and Mary
