Letter to the Editor about Global Warming from Jenny Moxham - 6 Jan 2007

Good news! This letter of mine (that was recently published in the "Sydney Morning Herald") was published in today's "Sunday Age"!

Livestock = dead planet

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has just issued a stunning report on global warming.

Livestock production is responsible for more climate change gases than all the motor vehicles in the world. Seventy per cent of the Amazon deforestation, 64 per cent of all the acid rain-producing ammonia, and 15 out of the 24 vast global eco systems that are in decline can blame livestock.

Livestock production is at the heart of many environmental catastrophes - rainforest destruction, spreading deserts, loss of fresh water, air and water
pollution and soil erosion.

The most important new year resolution anyone can make is to cut out animal products. Our planet will be better off.
