Letter from Madelyn Silverberg about the Abuse of Beautiful Birds - 16 Dec 2007

I just came back from a horrible experience of seeing beautiful peacocks displayed as centerpieces on every table at a singles event run by Millennium Singles which was held at Tivoli Terrace in Westbury, Long Island New York.

I went up to the manager to express my dislike and told him that I grew up with these beautiful creatures and how come they felt it was necessary to kill these beautiful birds as a display. He called me an "asshole" and I did not know what I was talking about. I worry as the lover of animals is there anything sacred anymore?. It breaks my heart to see animals sacrificed in this way as a decorative centerpiece. I brought my children up to love all creatures big and small and to love and respect.

I have never been to an event that I have seen this. Would you be able to give me some advise as how to pursue this?. Again, I am so upset about what I saw tonight.

Thank you,

Madelyn Silverberg

Dear Madelyn:

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. The manager sounds like a real sociopath.

We would suggest that you write letters to the editor of the local papers, and to the organization that sponsored the event. If you send copies of the letters to us, we'd also be happy to publish them.

The more we speak out against every form of animal exploitation and suffering, the sooner public opinion will force an end to it.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
