Letter from Belinda about Human and Animal Abuse - 22 Jan 2008

Hi:

I found this page on the internet. My daughter has just left a very abusive situation. In this situation, the husband would abuse the dog as a form of abuse to her. She did get courage enough to leave after a year and a half of this.

Now he has petitioned the court for the dog. The judge is saying that he doesn't feel that the dog will be in danger if my daughter is no longer there. My daughter feels (and so do I) that this is just a ploy to get her to come back to him. She has stated that she knows that he will kill the dog just to get even with her for leaving. He threatened her with this many times. She is at the verge of going back because of this. Is there any advice that you can give me concerning this new law and how we would go about getting it put into effect in this situation?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Belinda

Dear Belinda:

Thank you for writing. We'll do our best to help.

If the dog had to be treated by a vet for any of the abuse, those records should be submitted to the court.

If there are felony animal cruelty laws in your state, your daughter should file a formal complaint, if she has any proof.

You also might want to contact some local animal protection groups.

We hope this helps.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
