From The Mary T. and
Frank L. Hoffman
[Days after this letter, Ellen sent Penelope's Plight, a wonderful rescue story!]
I stumbled upon your website today. Wow! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who stops to get a bird off the road, brings home injured raccoons, feeds those who are hungry and homeless, and is laughed at when I warm a frozen mouse.
Sometimes, the cost is overwhelming, the work is exhausting and the lack of support from my fellow humans is hard on the soul. I actually went to a psychologist and asked her to make me more hard-hearted and she said that she couldn't, because that isn't who I am. I don't feel I belong in this world, it's too cruel, but while I'm here, I know that my job is to make it more comfortable for those in my own neighborhood, at least.
I will be coming back to your website when I need that 'pep' talk again!!

Thank you very much for your kind and encouraging comments, and for telling us about what you are doing to help the animals.
We also see all the hardness of heart in the world, and wouldn't want you to become like that. We don't need any more hardness in the world. We need more soft hearted people to stand up and say no to the exploitation and killing of all animals by humans and to show more compassion and support for those who care about the animals.
This is one of the reasons that we became vegans many years ago. It allowed each of us to save more than 36 land animals and many more sea animals every year, it improved our health, and allowed us to make a positive compassionate statement to the world around us.
And through the journey, we have helped encourage others like you.
If you would like to write up any of your stories, we'd love to publish them with any photos you may have.
In the Love of the Lord,
Frank and Mary
