Letter from Meg About Being Vegetarian - 3 Nov 2009

I love your website. I copied this:

(Genesis 1:29-31): 'Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground-- everything that has the breath of life in it-- I give every green plant for food." And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.' (NIV) Let no animal suffer or die that we may live!

I need to send it to my neighbor who keeps trying to tell me that I'm going to go to hell for being a vegetarian. He also tells me that animals don't have souls, and since they don't know Jesus, they will also go to hell. I have indoor cats, never had kids because of health problems.

I couldn't imagine ever doing harm to any animal, I love my vegetarian diet, I know it helps my M.S. and my husbands diabetes. Thanks for caring about animals.

Thank you very much for writing and for encouraging comments.

People say these things about animals and the people who care about them all the time, as if they have a special club and they're in charge of membership. In John 3:16, a verse that almost every Christian child knows, we are clearly told that God so love the world, and not just a part of it. And in Genesis 1 and 2, we are told that God created humans and every other animal as living souls. There is no distinction in the Hebrew. So...if we go to heaven, then so do the animals. Furthermore, the animals don't need to be saved, because they are innocent of the corruption created by humans.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
