Letter from Tony About Bird-Friendly Wind Energy - 8 Nov 2009

Dear Friend,

Maybe there are many Citizens like me. I follow "trends." First I think windmills are the answer, then I read about death of birds and I am against windmills. Now I read your article [Truly Eco- and Bird-Friendly Wind Turbine] and once again I am confused. Please keep the information coming and perhaps Citizens like myself will find the correct decisions.

Some 10 years ago cycling in mid Wales (Britain) I saw windmills that looked like a kitchen mixer but bigger. they had several blades and turned on a base. Does that make sense? Anyway I thought I heard that this type of generator was not effective as it was too heavy for the bearings it sat on. The windmill I saw was at a place called the Alternative Energy Centre at Corris. I am not sure of relationship between the types of windmills and the centre. I may be wrong but I think the Centre tests the mills and also solar panels, voltaic and water heating and the manufacturer learns from that.

All the best to you all,
