How pleased I am to learn that some Australians have got a taste of the suffering the bulls at Pamplona are forced to endure (''Australian injured in Spanish bull run'', July 9).
In this event, bulls who have never known anything but the tranquil countryside are suddenly thrust into a screaming, drunken, taunting mob. Many sustain injuries as they slip and slide on the cobblestones. In the evening the pitiful, terrified animals are sent into the bullring where they are tortured to death in front of a cheering crowd.
I find it appalling that so many people find this cruel and brutal scenario amusing.
