Letter from Peter Collins to Case Western Reserve About Experimenting on Groundhogs - 25 Jan 2011

There is a lot of adverse publicity across the world about your university still experimenting on animals in the 21st century, and there will follow a huge amount more publicity.

Millions of people all over the world, including my many American friends, care deeply about animal welfare issues such as this and will always avoid, and publicise (for example on social networking sites), universities who have such antiquated practices, and who will favour universities who have more enlightened non-animal practices, (for example those listed below), so over time colleges like yours will lose a lot of money if they persist in turning laboratories into animal concentration camps.

Every medical school in Canada now uses non-animal methods so I am sure you do not want Canada to be viewed internationally as more advanced than America in the field of medical research.

In recent years many medical schools have dropped animal labs: University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Allegheny General Hospital, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Tennessee (UT) College Of Medicine in Memphis, University of Tennessee, New York Medical College, St. Louis University, Washington University Medical School, University of Rochester, and University of Illinois...and more.

Thank you for your time.
