Change is
Inevitable, they say.
All we are guaranteed
Is change
But then little changes.
The destruction of forest and sea life
Continues, (un)just to put flesh on our plates
And milk in our glasses,
Storms storm and fires rage,
Water floods and mud slides,
Dirty tears
Down mountainsides
One lonely orangutan
Still clings to the last tree,
The image persists in our brain.
It moves us,
But fails to get us moving.
We're mired in the same muck.
What's a numb soul to do?
So much pain,
No gain
Change is necessary
Not inevitable.
Business as usual
Will be our children's demise.
There is other work to be done!
Our shock must mobilize not paralyze,
Let's not dwell in impotent anger at endless lies
Move ahead instead,
With empathy, for self and others,
So that all souls may be fed
The innovations we need to HEAL
Will come when we learn how to feel.
Veganism is the mustard seed
That will regrow the deserts of animal agri-cults.
It is the people,
United in truth and fierce love,
Vegan strong,
Who will right Earth’s wrong,
And let her once again
Sing her birthright song,
Resonate with melody
Through fields of wildflowers and ancient woods,
Cries of Animal Ag-ony no more
This is how true change happens,
When forests and fields
And oceans are let be.
They already know what to do,
How to regenerate truth,
And be the change we want to see.
