Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park
Poetry By Anthony James
Memories consume
Like opening the wound-
I’m picking me apart again-
You all assume-
I’m safe here in my room-
Because she’s here with me-
but her dark side looms-
I don’t want to be the one
The battles always choose
‘Cause inside I realize
That I’m the one who used-
I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I’ve come to this-
I don’t know how I got this way,
Or what’s behind her kiss-
I know it’s not alright like this,
I'll never be alright-
So I’m breaking the habit,
I'm breaking the habit, tonight!
Clutching my cure, I tightly lock the door
I try to catch my breath again,
I hurt much more than any time before
I take another pill again.
I don’t want to be the one
The battles always choose
‘Cause inside I realize
That I’m the one who used-
I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I’ve come to this-
I don’t know how I got this way,
Or what’s behind her kiss-
I know it’s not alright like this,
I'll never be alright-
So I’m breaking the habit,
I'm breaking the habit, tonight!
I’ll paint it on the walls
‘cause I’m the one at fault
I’ll never use again,
I know how it all ends-
I now know what’s worth fighting for
And why I had to scream!
And now I have some clarity-
To show you what I mean-
I don’t know how I got like this-
But I did start this fight,
So, I’m breaking this habit,
I'm breaking the habit,
I'm breaking the habit- Tonight!
