If Thou Must Ask
By Mark Edgemon

I worship thee, second unto my God.
Your light shines, deep into my soul.
It warms me, radiating great joy
In the knowledge of our oneness.
For I know you will be there
Throughout each of my days.
I know you will care for me,
Regardless of my fallacies.

I cannot understand the reason for your commitment,
For I am a man of simple purpose,
Yet I possess great passion.
I long for you; precious; your loving affections
Brings confidence in your smile.

I am your man and it pleases me.
Stay with me through the longest nights
And I will show you love in the morning.
I will give you honor. We will share joy for what we have gathered
And hope for the unknown in which we grasp.

And when my time has come,
I will rest in your embrace.
Peace will usher me to our future place,
Where I will be waiting for you.
Remember this my love;
That your kisses made my life less difficult;
More bearable; for they were my delight!
