ODE TO GEESEOver the trees
And through the sky
Winging your way
'Neath God's smiling Eye
I watch you return..
As you honk your "Hello!"
Safe in my yard
From arrow and bow!
Safe from the shot
Of a greedy man's gun
For his need to kill
For his odd sense of fun?
Safe from the dangers
Of just being a goose...
Just trying to live
With "nuts" on the lose!
Who shoot, then stomp you
As you lay on the ground
And you die all alone
Without a sound....
And no one ever knew
That you ever lived
Or cared how
You died....how your
Life did give!...
You are my own flock
Who know I'm your friend
Who will protect you
Right to the end!
And each day you come
Flying in for the day
Honking and happy
For a safe place to stay!
I bid you my Love
And I wish you God's Speed
Forever in Spirit
For a free Life to lead...
And I treasure your presence
In my Life evermore..
May you always be Free
And the skies you shall
Soar!!.......
For you owned the skies
Long before man in planes
And I love how you ribbon
The skies with your skeins...
And each evening I bid you
A safe, restful night...
'Til I see you again
On tomorrow's flight.....
