Soap And Water
By Lance Landall

In the days when I was young, mothers made it very clear,
That should we use foul language, soap would suddenly appear.
Those mouths that used foul language, it was deemed deserved a wash,
To serve as a reminder, and thus future swearing quash.

Since that time when I was young, things have badly gone astray,
For swearing’s now pandemic, and growing fouler every day.
It seems there’s less resistance, to this language that degrades
The very one who’s swearing, and who lack of control parades.

No self-respecting person, lowers themself by swearing,
Nor will they use such language, within another’s hearing.
Once obscene words are spoken, one’s integrity is destroyed,
Hence why self-respecting people, such obscenity avoid.

Much is conveyed to others, by the things we choose to say,
Or certain words we utter, as both, the inner self display.
Whenever foul words are used, that all of us should condemn,
They reflect wrong in the mind, of those who are using them.

Such people simply display, a level to which they’ve sunk,
Or a polluted fountain, from which, sadly, they have drunk.
The sources that we draw from, and give entry to the brain,
Invariably determine, what inside our minds will reign.

There’s never need of language, that destroys integrity,
Or that offends another, who considers such, obscenity.
If swearing doesn’t faze you, and/or foul words you’ll still say,
At least show thought for others, who don’t see things the same way.

It seems that soap and water, wouldn’t go astray today,
As never have we seen before, such verbal moral decay.
It never brings one credit, using language that’s obscene,
For it shows a mind that’s sullied, and a mouth soap needs to clean.
