Ten Thousand Suns

Ten thousand suns
bursting round our pond
this September day;
The tickseed sunflower
is in full bloom;
Glistening yellow petals
against deep-green
saw-edged leaves,
Stalks of maroon,
bobbing and weaving
with every wisp of wind,
Making the flower-suns
bounce
and sparkle
in the clear fall light;
The pond
is totally surrounded
by this vibrant yellow halo,
Gently swaying
and flashing rays of joy
to all with open hearts.
