The Lord’s Prayer, Paraphrased/Expanded
(Matthew 6:9-13, KJV)
Because we’re God’s children, we should always address Him in a certain
That being: Addressing Him as our heavenly Father, whenever we pray.
There are also right and wrong ways to pray to our heavenly Father, thus,
He hasn’t left us in ignorance, but has given an example to us —
“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”
Our Father who resides in Heaven. Your name — just like Yourself — is
It stands for Your character. Out of respect, I utter it reverently.
I seek to honour You, and Your name too, by my words and my deeds — daily —
And by giving You the worship You’re due — that others may be led to Thee.
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is
May Your will be carried out on this earth, as it is in Heaven above,
For the success of Your Kingdom, is all that matters; oh, great God of love.
May the kingdoms of this world, very soon become the Kingdom of Your Son.
Meantime, help me spread Your Word, even unto death, that You may say, “Well done!”
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Please grant me my daily needs — temporal/spiritual — that all may be
After all, You’re our Provider/Sustainer — we’re reliant on Your goodwill.
Help me appreciate You more, become more grateful, content, and praise Thee,
For You are a generous, thoughtful God, full of compassion and mercy.
“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”
Forgive me for my wrong thoughts, words and deeds; help me forgive others
For I’m aware You won’t forgive us, if the latter, we choose not to do.
So, should others treat me wrongly, please help me to respond to them like Thee,
And help me treat others rightly, lest I forfeit Paradise — eternally.
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:”
Protect me from falling into temptation; don’t go leaving me alone,
Help me to live righteously, Father, and to steer clear of the devil’s zone.
Help me to do Your will, not my own, unless of course, it’s the same as Yours,
And help me never to waver, nor any temptation for others cause.
“For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
To You, and You alone, belongs the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory.
I long to see Your face, the end of sin’s reign — the age old controversy.
May Your Kingdom reign forever, both now [on this earth] in the hearts of men —
And when it is literally ushered in — after Christ’s return. AMEN.
