THY HOLY WILDERNESS
Poetry by M. Linda Steffey

I thought I saw the face of God
In a cloud up in the sky
And I in silence 'neath the oak
Gazed amazed as He drifted by...
His was a gentle, loving face
I thought with a sigh
And it seemed to glow within
With a twinkle in His eye..

"I'm glad you let me see you, Lord..
Perhaps You've heard me pray
Even though I'm just a poor soul, Lord
You have helped me not to stray...
I try to love all people, Lord
And I turn my other cheek..
It's hard to be a good Christian
And much peace of mind I seek...

I come to Thy Holy Wilderness
For here my conflicts cease..
Out among Thy Creatures, Lord
Is where I find such Peace..
Out here upon Thy Mother Earth
I listen to Life's sounds
It's such a restful calm, Dear Lord
None like it have I found..."

I thought I saw Him smile at me
And I thought I felt Him near
I thought it was the wind I heard
Whispering in my ear..
I often go to the Wilderness
For the Peace that I find there
God is in each living thing
Each filled with beauty rare....
