Why Am I Celebrating Christmas?
By Mark Edgemon

I don't like to be told to celebrate on cue,
To buy gifts, because it is expected,
To send greetings to people, I don't want to talk to,
To put on a smiley face to inlaws and outlaws,
Often the same!

I want to celebrate when it means something
To me and those around me, loving me and on me.
It's truly more blessed to give than receive,
For my gift is feeling the satisfaction in others,
Which satisfies me!

I do not note the birth of Christ or His death,
But more His Life through me, His Love in me,
His Wisdom before me, His Defense of me,
His effervescent Joy out of me
And his stalwart of peace grounding me.

Now that, I can celebrate!
