Carnal Logic

Porter was beginning to hear more and more from the Holy Spirit each and every day. This was the time in his life to enter into his calling. He wanted to give himself over to God, but he was afraid of the commitment to God and the losing control of his decision-making ability. In other words, he wanted to be in control. It would have been great if he could have his cake and eat it too, surrender himself to the will of God and still be in control of his life. But it didn’t work that way. It was all or nothing as the saying goes.

When God asked him to do something, he would think it over carefully and do what he was asked to do, except for some little thing he did his own way. He would justify his additions and his subtractions to God’s instructions and consequently, things never worked out the way God had intended.

He prayed and asked forgiveness when things went wrong, but wound up doing the same thing over again. He just wasn’t ready to give up control. At that rate, he never would.

Time was growing short and he was running out of time. On one evening, when he was preparing for bed, the Lord spoke to his spirit and said, I need someone in the position I called you to do. Porter asked the Lord for more time. God said, if you’re not ready, I have someone else in mind to fill those shoes.

A year later, the calling was answered and people were coming to God because of it. It was Porter who stepped into the calling God had for him. He wasn’t going to let anyone else fulfill his destiny. No more logic, just obedience. He had no more suggestions for God after that.
