On Friday morning, after Kaporos slaughter had ceased at sunrise, the Official NYC Kaporos Rescue Team began their search through Brooklyn for any survivors. One of our dedicated Rescue Coordinators, Paola Gavino, has established a longstanding relationship with a specific Kaporos location, where she frequently receives surrendered Kaporos chickens for rescue. This year, the team was shocked to receive a surrender of more than 270 birds! They quickly sprang into action, loading three vehicles with survivors and transporting them to a safe house in upstate New York for assessment, treatment, and foster care.
Our Official NYC Kaporos Rescue Team organizes the largest annual animal
liberation in the United States. They are extremely responsible, seldom
rescue more victims than they have secure homes for. On this heart-wrenching
final morning, although they had secured homes for only about 300 chickens,
they ended up rescuing over 450. Leaving behind these surrendered
five-week-old birds was simply not an option for them.
Many secured homes within their extensive network have graciously increased
their capacity to accept more Kaporos rescues. However, numerous Cornish
Cross roosters are still in need of homes! If you are able to adopt some of
these adorable boys, please submit an application right away at
RescueAChicken.com.
The transportation of these rescued birds are already underway, including completion of the annual cross-country drive to California to deliver dozens of baby chickens for foster and eventual placement across the Pacific Northwest.
Veterinary care, fostering, and transporting these rescued chickens is
costly! Please consider giving to our Rescue Fundraiser as we work around
the clock to stabilize the injured babies, facilitate transports across the
U.S., and find homes for our young roosters.
