Frequently Asked Questions Isn’t this just one more Charismatic/ Pentecostal doctrine for Christians to get their hopes up about, only to be disappointed and frustrated by it in the end? This question sounds like it’s from a person with a lot of "I tried
that and it didn’t work" quips. And yet, if it was something genuinely
contained in the Scriptures, it can more accurately be said that the
Word tried you and you didn’t work! I don’t know of a
Charismatic/Pentecostal doctrine that has left millions or even
thousands of people hopelessly devastated when you’re talking about
people that allowed the Word of God to be a bit in their mouths and to
govern their actions. Millions of people have been healed, prospered,
enjoyed greater fellowship with the Lord, and are growing in faith,
hope, and love without measure. And a new generation of
Charismatic/Pentecostal ministers are coming to the forefront that are
ministering with supernatural fire from another world. If by the
remotest chance this is an honest question about expectations and their
fulfillment, from a philosophical perspective rather than from someone
with a million criticisms that wears their feelings on their sleeves: It’s not limited to Christianity where we have people being
disappointed because of unrealistic expectations that weren’t founded in
reality. People go on diet and exercise programs all of the time
expecting to lose 20 or more pounds a week! And in fairness, people
who’ve claimed to be Christians that weren’t in any of the
Charismatic/Pentecostal circles have had their hopes dashed because of
doctrines that weren’t specifically limited to the
Charismatic/Pentecostal movements. People who wouldn’t claim any
camaraderie whatsoever with Pentecostals have gotten weird about the
timing of the Lord’s coming, when certain things in the book of
Revelation were going to happen, when Israel’s eyes would be opened to
their Messiah, and countless other things. Unfulfilled expectations
occur in romantic relationships, marriages, high schools and colleges,
job performance evaluations and pay raises, etc. Christ won’t trample on any life form that hasn’t yet experienced redeeming grace, just to meet some type of time-table in relation to coming to a New Heavens and New Earth or to get to His ultimate goal of delivering up the Kingdom to the Father in 1Corinthians 15:28. Through the Seed of Abraham, all of the families of the earth have to be blessed! (faq-063) Go on to the Next FAQ |
