SAVE THE FROGS
March 2015
Californians legally import over two million non-native American Bullfrogs into the state each year, primarily for use as food. This is the first time in our five year campaign to ban bullfrog importations that the state has explicitly acknowleged the ecological problems caused by the bullfrogs.
Tell California DFW Director Chuck Bonham and Fish & Game Commission Secretary of Resources John Laird to stop issuing permits for the importation of American Bullfrogs.

"Live importation of American Bullfrogs presents a direct risk to
California's wildlife…definitely it's a pathway for wildlife diseases."
-- Stafford Lehr, California Department of Fish & Wildlife, Branch Chief of
Inland and Anadromous Fisheries, February 12th, 2015
"This animal (the American Bullfrog) is a threat to California's native
species."
-- California Fish & Game Commissioner Richard Rogers, February 12th, 2015
"American bullfrogs have voracious appetites and will eat anything they can
fit into their mouths, including invertebrates, birds, bats, rodents, frogs,
newts, lizards, snakes, and turtles."
-- California Department of Fish & Wildlife,
Bullfrog Fact Sheet
Californians legally import over two million non-native American Bullfrogs into the state each year, primarily for use as food. Due to pressure from SAVE THE FROGS! and other wildlife groups, the CA Department of Fish & Wildlife (DFW) and the CA Fish & Game Commission (FGC) convened last month to discuss the implication of the state's bullfrog policy. While no major decision took place at the meeting, both the Department and the Commission clearly acknowledged that the bullfrogs threaten native wildlife.
This is the first time in our five year campaign to ban bullfrog importations that the state has explicitly acknowleged the ecological problems caused by the bullfrogs. Awareness is the first step on the path to change. Now it's up to all of us to lead the politicians down the path from awareness to action so that California's bullfrog imports are relegated to the annals of past history.
Thank you for everything you do for animals!
