July 2015
Please ask your Senator to support the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (S. 697), introduced by Sens. Tom Udall and David Vitter. The bill contains many provisions that will more accurately protect the public health and reduce and replace animals in chemical tests.

If you already co-sponsor the bill, thank you! S. 697 will protect the
public health by moving away from unreliable animal tests. We hope you will
support the bill when it goes to the Senate floor.
Unfortunately, while some environmental groups support the bill, a few
groups are actively opposing this bill, urging senators to vote against it,
and supporting an opposing bill that strips many provisions to modernize
testing. They refuse to support requirements on the EPA and the chemical
industry to use scientifically relevant nonanimal test methods when
available. This will delay the protection of public health and maintain
reliance on animal tests for the foreseeable future.
The bill has a diverse and growing base of support from both sides of the
aisle. I hope you'll join your colleagues in supporting the Frank R.
Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (S. 697), including its
provisions to replace animal tests, and bring toxicity testing into the 21st
century.
Thank you for everything you do for animals!
