ACTION

The deadline to finalize a Federal budget for Fiscal Year 2018 is fast approaching, and, as they have attempted to do every year, anti-wildlife, anti-Endangered Species Act (ESA) lawmakers have loaded up FY2018 budget bills with legislative riders that remove federal protections from some of our most imperiled endangered species and attack the ESA.

Write to your U.S. senators and representative and urge them to stand firm against all budget riders that would weaken the ESA and harm wildlife!

INFORMATION

These budget riders would be devastating for wildlife. For example, there are provisions that would remove ESA protections from gray wolves in Wyoming and the Great Lakes region and prohibit any legal challenge to these delisting decisions (Born Free USA fought against a previous attempt to delist Great Lakes wolves and recently won in court). Additional riders seek to block ESA protections for all gray wolves in the lower 48 states, decrease funding for activities to determine whether species should be listed as threatened or endangered, and many more harmful anti-wildlife measures.

The ESA is our nation's most effective and popular wildlife conservation law; it has saved 99 percent of listed species from extinction and has the support of 90 percent of American voters. We must act now to ensure that wildlife is protected in the coming year!
