All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize. This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves. As we continue to disregard the value of the lives of the billions of animals we eat, we also are destroying our air, land and water.

If the underworld of commercial animal agribusiness is largely out of sight, its animal experimentation side is even more invisible.

Lambs in the "easy care" experiment are tagged so they can be traced to
mothers that often abandon them after being left to give birth in open
fields. The ones here died during a weekend last May. Credit Michael

United Poultry Concerns is posting this New York Times report on the genetic torture of pigs, cows, sheep and their nursing young by researchers at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska. This Department of Agriculture program is funded by U.S. taxpayers.
Many people are unaware of the direct link between animal farming and animal experimentation.
While this New York Times report does not include research on chickens, turkeys, ducks and other birds used in food production, it goes on all the time. Chickens, turkeys and other birds are tortured in experiments involving beak amputation, forced molting, food deprivation and starvation, heat stress, feather pulling, genetic engineering, growth manipulation, slaughter and much more. If the underworld of commercial animal agribusiness is largely out of sight, its animal experimentation side is even more invisible.
For information on the use of birds in agricultural research, see Experimental Research.
