Thank you for writing.
That expression is both a prayer and a desire, and reflects the ultimate in what we are able to do, and where we fall short, we have to rely on God's grace.
It's not self-righteousness when we strive to follow Jesus' command to be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48).
Furthermore, eaters of animal flesh and by-products contribute much more to the demise of God's little folk, since it takes mush more land and crops to provide the same caloric value to humans. In addition, since animal foods contribute to so many human diseases, they also cause more laboratory animals to suffer and die.
Being vegan does do the least harm.

Since
