I understand personal conviction (and individual freedom), but I also think the "Christian" label can be accurately applied when kept in line with what what Christ taught and modeled. Of course, one can probably have "Christian" beliefs but not exhibit "Christian" behavior. There is also "Christian" forgiveness (something I'm thankful for).
As far as verses in the Bible, I think it is important to remember what the Bible is, to whom it was addressed, and how it applies to our lives--but not just picking out verses here and there without considering the whole story.
