Dear Holly:
Thank you very much for writing. We hope you enjoyed the lentil soup.
When we read the whole Bible, as you have suggested, we see the vast difference between God's creation and heavenly intent, and that of the corrupt world we live in. Our Bible verses were an attempt to show God's creation intent, rather than the concession which you cite.
Today, almost all of the animal products sold in our supermarkets come from factory farms and slaughterhouses where animals suffer horribly. Being thankful for what we eat is wonderful and proper, but such thanksgiving can never take away the suffering contained in animal flesh and bodily secretions. This is why the Jewish sages never had a prayer for animals flesh in their meals.
We hope you understand, and look forward to hearing from you again.
In the Love of the Lord,
Frank and Mary
