A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

“Wars and Rumors of Wars” – 18 July 2006
By Mary T. Hoffman

Isn’t this world insane? Just think about it: billions are spent developing newer, more lethal weapons for the destruction of billions of dollars worth of buildings, airports, etc. People, other animals, and the environment are destroyed; yet at the same time people talk about the development of “cures” for diseases – most of which are preventable – and increasing the longevity of humans. And while children are starving, there are several countries that are trying to increase their populations!

Two thousand years ago Jesus said: (Matthew 24:6-8)

6 “And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.”

7 “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.”

8 “But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.”

~ New American Standard Bible

Because some people refuse to live in peace, they are creating this self-fulfilling end-times prophecy.

Just think about it. Granted – that people have ideological differences, but these differences are not insurmountable if they want to have peace. Didn’t Jesus sit on the edge of the well with a Samaritan woman? Didn’t Peter go to the home of a Roman officer in order to present the kingdom of heaven?

It seems like a few egotists, in the name of religion, stir up people’s emotions to a violent frenzy; and all they create is chaos for themselves and others.

If they took all of this wasted money and applied it to improving living conditions, and stopped their warring madness, we would have the peace that everyone claims they want.
