A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

“Cruelty-Free”? – 19 January 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Where animals are concerned, “cruelty-free,” “humane,” “free-range” are examples of words that have become meaningless since animal exploiters are cashing in on the public’s wishful thinking.

Such words evoke ideals that are mere figments of imagination and have no basis in fact – like “Old MacDonald’s Farm.” “All natural” is another example of a meaningless description.

Animal exploiters and their cohorts deliberately tap into the misguided compassion of their customers and even “take them to the cleaners” by charging considerably more for their products of cruelty and death that have such labels.

There is no getting around it: sooner or later, all animal-derived products entail suffering – no matter what the propaganda spreaders claim. Like it or not, the truth is that there is only one way to live as “cruelty-free” as possible: Think; educate yourself, your family, and friends; and avoid all animal products. Go Vegan! Really Vegan!
