A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

“Cruelty-Free”? (continued) – 20 January 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

In yesterday’s Blog I mentioned how the public is being duped by the deliberate misuse of so many words that are associated with kindness: “cruelty-free,” “humane,” “free-range.” Such labels are worse than meaningless – they hide the hideous suffering of those creatures of God who cannot defend themselves.

“Hardness of heart” (as well as heart disease, stroke, etc.!) is actually becoming more entrenched as the world-wide consumption of animal-products increases dramatically.

All you have to do is leaf through the catalogues of food cooperatives to find advertisements and listings proclaiming “all natural” chicken, “organic” chicken, “organic” ground beef, “organic” cheese, “organic” milk, “organic” butter, buffalo hotdogs, buffalo patties – ad nauseam.

And the “meanie greenies” who call themselves “environmentalists” should know better; especially since the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which works to defeat world hunger, reports that animal agriculture presents a “major threat to the environment.”
