A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Beef Recall – 18 February 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

Yesterday, 143 million pounds of beef were recalled by Westland/Hallmark Meat Packing Company, the largest recall ever in U.S. history. About 37 million pounds of this meat went to school lunch programs and other federal “nutrition” programs.

CNN’s TV news program is to be commended for having Wayne Pacelle of HSUS on today and for showing the mistreatment of downed cattle. It’s about time the news media started to inform the public about what goes on behind closed doors in the animal agriculture industries, and not only when human health is involved. The public should also be kept informed about the horrible cruelty that goes on.

I’m glad that CNN’s journalists did not try to hide the fact that downers can carry mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) which can take years to show symptoms in people who are infected.
