"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
The other day, I was reading an article that made the connection between diet and intelligence: vegetarians/vegans are more likely to have a higher intelligence than those who eat animal products.
Here are the quotations of two historical figures – intelligent thinkers who made the connection between the eating and/or treatment of other animals and human progress:
“My refusing to eat meat occasioned an inconveniency, and I have been
frequently chided for my singularity. But my light repast allows for greater
progress, for greater clearness of head and quicker comprehension.”
– Benjamin Franklin (17 January 1706 – 17 April 1790)
Printer, author, publisher, inventor, scientist, businessman, philosopher,
statesman, and diplomat.
“As man advanced gradually in intellectual power and was enabled to trace
the more remote consequences of his actions; as his sympathies became more
tender and widely diffused, extending to men of all races, and finally, to
the lower animals, so would the standard of his morality rise higher and
higher.”
– Charles Darwin (1809–1882)
English naturalist and biologist
