A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Thomas Fuller and Roy Fuller – 20 February 2009
By Mary T. Hoffman

For today I’ve chosen the following quotations by two “Fullers,” Thomas and Roy, as well as a quotation from Proverbs:

“He that will not be merciful to his beast is a beast himself.”
~ Thomas Fuller (1608–1661), English clergyman and historian

"It is man who has fallen, not the beasts: that is the message even for the irreligious, and to some extent salvation can be measured by his very treatment of them."
~ Roy Fuller (11 February 1912–27 September 1991), English poet and novelist

In the Book of Genesis we can see that it was humans, Adam and Eve, through their disobedience, who brought about the fall.

“A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.”
~ Proverbs 12:10
