How To Persuade A Carnivore: The Environmental Argument
From Animal Rights
Coalition
August 2022
Raising animals for food (including land used for
grazing and growing crops to feed those animals) now uses a staggering 30%
of our Earth's land mass.
The Animal Rights Coalition promotes veganism for ethical reasons.
But not everyone is open to that argument and sometimes you must go
through a back door or in a rear window or down the chimney.
If you know someone who calls him/herself an environmentalist but
hasn't made the connection that a vegan diet is an
environmentalist's dream, try putting some of these facts in your
"but you really can't call yourself an environmentalist if you still
eat animals" arsenal:
- 55 square feet of tropical rainforest is consumed in every quarter
pound of rainforest beef.
- Over 1,000 plant and animal species become extinct each year due to
destruction of tropical rainforests for meat grazing and other uses.
- It requires 3 times more fossil fuels to produce a meat-centered
diet than a plant-based diet.
- Livestock production uses half of all the water used for all
purposes in the U.S.
- 25 gallons of water are needed to produce a pound of wheat.
- 1,800 gallons of water are needed to produce a pound of beef.
